Leisure multiplier

The factor applied to the leisure budget (dining out, travel, entertainment) at a given lifestyle tier.

The leisure multiplier scales discretionary spend — dining out, travel, gym, entertainment, hobbies — by lifestyle. Frugal = 0.4×, balanced = 1.0×, comfortable = 1.6×, premium = 2.5×. The wide range (6.25× from low to high) reflects how elastic this category genuinely is.

Most of the salary gap between lifestyle tiers comes from leisure plus housing. If you can lock in your housing tier and commit to a frugal leisure spend, your required salary drops dramatically without sacrificing daily quality of life.

Be honest about your leisure baseline before picking a tier. Many readers identify with the frugal lifestyle aspirationally but spend at the comfortable level. Look at your last six months of dining and travel spend in your current city, then map that to a tier.
